The mare makes the difference: Qerly Chin (PART 1)
PART 1
BWP mare performance line 34; The Qerly Chin line.
Joris de Brabander is the breeder of several horses that have participated at the Olympic Games of London 2012, among them London (Nabab de Rêve) with Gerco Schröder, Derly Chin de Muze (For Pleasure) with Eric Lamaze and Mylord Carthago (Carthago) with Penelope Leprevost. The mare Derly Chin de Muze descends from the famous Qerly Chin de Muze line. The ancestress Qerly Chin (Chin Chin) is born in 1993, bred by Joris de Brabander. She has built up a line that is only in her kind. Not only with Qerly Chin but also with the mares Ta Belle van Sombeke (Chin Chin) and Fragance de Chalus (Jalisco B) begins the success with Joris de Brabander. Qerly Chin produced 11 offspring bred by Joris de Brabander and 9 of them were mares!
Roots
The line from Qerly Chin is young, the line starts with Asstep (Saygon) who is born in 1977. The Sire is a BWP approved stallion from a Hanoverian motherline. Breeder from Asstep is Jozef Geenen from Balen Neet. Asstep produced only one offspring, the mare Goya (Fleuri du Manoir) bred by Leon van Lierop from St. Niklaas. Goya was purchased by Walter de Brabander (the father of Joris de Brabander). Already as a foal she was striking beautiful and she had good movement, she was covered as a two year old by Pachat II. This stallion stood in that time at stud at family de Brabander. As a three year old Goya was covered again by Pachat II and she was started under saddle when she was five. Johan Lenssens rode her in the finale for six year old horses in Gesves and after that she was sold. Goya showed a lot of scope and was very careful. So Goya produced two full sisters; Jena and Kerly (Pachat II), both bred by Walter de Brabander from Nieuwkerken. Jena was just like her mother in sport with Johan Lenssens and was sold.
Kerly
Kerly performed at international level with several riders like with David Jobertie and took part at the Grand Prix from Mechelen. Kerly was already as a five year old a great talent. The Olympic stallion Chin Chin (Constant) was chosen to be the partner for Kerly. Later it would become clear that this was a hit. Qerly Chin was born out of the combination from Kerly with Chin Chin. Qerly Chin was also one of the last foals who born at the natural way, because in 1993 started Joris de Brabander with embryo transfers.
I quote from the article ‘Goya written by Jo de Roo published in the book, Belgische Prestatiestammen Deel III’:
Kerly was sold to Spain when she was nine years old, she build up an international career and competed at the European Championships for junior rider, achieved a second place in the championship from Spain and had a fourth place in a 1.40m class during CSIO Madrid.
In 2013 she gave birth to the colt Julio Iglesias Del Amor (Grand Rivage) after not having a foal for 10 years. Kerly was in 2015 28 years old and living in Spain at Yeguada El Amor.
Qerly Chin
Qerly Chin showed already at a young age her special qualities just like her mother and grandmother. Joris de Brabander recalls:
Qerly Chin had as a foal very special qualities. She proved that later on in sport. She was careful and had the scope!
Qerly Chin is proof that sport and breeding go hand in hand. Joris already flushed embryos out of Qerly when she was two years old.
Christel Lenssens rode Qerly Chin as a young horse in the four year old competition, she recalls:
Qerly Chin had a very special character and had an unbelievable amount of quality. In the beginning she was not the easiest to ride, she noticed everything but was very careful when we were jumping and had an unlimited amount of scope."
Qerly Chin was with Christel seven times clear in the four year old competition and they reached the final in Gesves. As a six year old she finished sixth with Johan Lenssens (brother to Christel) in the championship of Belgium. That year she also finished seventh in the classic cycle of Belgium with Johan Lenssens, with this placing she was also the best placed BWP horse. After that she got qualitied for the FEI World Breeding Jumping Championships in Lanaken, later that year she got sold to Switzerland. Qerly Chin was together with her rider Christophe Barbeau a top combination. They often had top placings in World Cup Qualifications and in 1.60m classes and they were also the reserve combination for the Olympic Games from Athens. In 2004 they stood on the 51th place of the WBFSH jumping Ranking, in that year Christiophe Barbeau participated with Qerly Chin at the World Cup final in Milan. In 2005 Qerly Chin was sold to France and she continued her career under the rider Reynald Angot and in 2007 her last rider was Timothee Anciaume. Qerly Chin produced in her time at Joris de Brabander his farm 11 offspring. Her offspring are proving that quality will prove itself and she passed on her qualities. Nabab de Rêve was in combination with Qerly Chin or with one of her daughters an excellent cross.
Christel Lenssens explains:
Nabab de Rêve made Qerly Chin her offspring more relaxed. Qerly Chin her scope was consolidated with the scope of Nabab de Rêve. The character of Qerly Chin was just that what makes her offspring so special. Her super mentality and being so very careful. This combination was really perfect.
Qerly Chin in France
Qerly Chin became after her sportscareer again a broodmare. This time in France, owned by Gregory Mars from Haras des M. Her oldest son from her time as broodmare in France is Scareface de Mars (Dollar Dela Pierre). He jumped at 1.40m with Julien Mesnil, his one year younger full brother Tchin de Pleville is jumping 1.40m with Gilbert Doerr. Then there is the full brother Napoleon who is jumping at 1.55m under the saddle of Alberto Marque Galobardes. Qerly Chin her daughter Tilda de Mars (Jarnac) is jumping at 1.40m with Celine Henry. I was very fortunate to be able to visit Qerly Chin in Normandy at Haras des M, in 2016. She plays an important role at the Haras des M, Gregory Mars explains:
“I always had a weak spot for Qerly Chin because of her performances in sport, but she wasn’t for sale. Until I found out that Jan Tops bought her and then I knew that I could buy her. I wasn’t aware of her offspring born in Belgium at the moment that I bought her, I liked her so much because of her mentality with jumping. I sold two embryos out of Qerly Chin to Haras de Pleville and Haras D’Ick. She is (this quote is from May 2016) the most important mare on my farm, with her I have built up my herd of broodmares with several daughters from Qerly Chin.”
Tilda de Mars is mother to Antidote de Mars (Diamant de Semilly) who is jumping at 1.60m under the saddle of Bliss Heers.
Qerly Chin her offspring
The power of the Qerly Chin line can be showed with Vagabond de la Pomme as an example; his mother Sauterelle de la Pomme (For Pleasure) jumped at 1.45m with Patrice Delaveau, his grandmother Narcotique de Muze II (Darco) 1.60m with Eric Lamaze, his great grandmother Qerly Chin (Chin Chin) 1.60m with Christophe Barbeau and his great-great grandmother Kerly (Pachat II) 1.50m with David Jobertie. Vagabond de la Pomme himself jumped at 1.60m with Penelope Leprevost and was second in the World Cup final in Las Vegas. Many of the offspring of Qerly Chin have five and sometimes even six international jumping mares in a row in their pedigree. This is unique! Qerly Chin her direct son Orly-Chin de Muze (Espri) competed at 1.40m with Hanno Ellerman. It have been her direct daughters that had inherited the phenomenal characteristics of Qerly Chin and who were also able to pass it on.
Qerly Chin her first daughter is Merveille de Muze (Nabab de Rêve) she jumped at 1.50m with Davide Kainich. Her daughter Bamboula de Muze (Rubens Du Ri D’Assse) is jumping at 1.50m with Orlando Izzo and her son Filou de Muze (Stakkato) is jumping at 1.60m with Philippe Le Jeune.
Whyaway de Litrange XXXIII (Mr. Blue) out of Qerly Chin produced the 1.60m jumping horse Ensor de Litrange LXII (Nabab de Rêve) with Jos Lansink and Lorenzo de Luca.
Joris de Brabander about the Qerly Chin line
We bred the most horses out of this line, several mares had 10 or more offspring. This is also a reason they had a big impact on my breeding program. The horses from this line are pretty, healthy, have a good size, are good movers and are very commercial. Plus the most important is that the horses from this line are good jumpers and are easy to work with. This is a very special line and it produced very special horses like Walnut de Muze, Derly Chin de Muze, Vagabond de La Pomme, Narcotique de Muze II and I’m Special de Muze to name a few. I still breed with several mares from this line!
PART 2
Four Narcotique’s
“There were four Narcotique’s in 1997.”
Joris de Brabander says.
“I made a deal with Willy van Impe that he could do an embryo flushing with his stallion, Tenor Manciais, from Qerly Chin. That was the first embryo that was born and Willy named her Narcotique Schuttershof. I really liked that name and thought that it was funny to cause some confusion, so I named the second embryo, by Darco, Narcotique de Muze II. The third one was a stallion by Cento and his name was Narcotique de Muze III, but he died at 4 months before the paperwork was finished. The fourth foal, by Quidam de Revel, was Narcotique de Muze IV and that was it for that year. And actually, in hindsight, the Narcotique’s quite supported each other and helped each other to become famous.”
Narcotique Schuttershof is dam of the very interesting stallion Ducati van Schuttershof (Kashmir van Schuttershof), who jumped at 1m55 under the saddle of Gilles Thomas. His halfbrother Edison van Schuttershof (Darco) is also jumping at 1m55 under the saddle of Gilles Thomas.
The third daughter of Qerly Chin is Narcotique de Muze IV (Quidam de Revel) she produced three approved sons for three different Studbooks; Iron Man van ‘t Meulenhof (Parco, 1.40m) for the BWP, his full sister Iron Lady van ‘t Meulenhof jumped at 1.50m with Keith Shore. Denzel van ‘t Meulenhof (by Marius Claudius) for A.E.S. and Jenson van ‘t Meulenhof (Vagabond de la Pomme, 1.60 with Niels Bruynseels) for sBs.
It is unfair to point out the best daughter of Qerly Chin because they are all unique. Narcotique de Muze II (Darco) is one of them who had a unique career. Already as a young horse she has showed a lot of potential, as a seven year old she was sixth in the final of FEI World Breeding Championships for Young Jumping Horses. As an eight year old she was sold to Eric Lamaze, who competed with her at 1.60m level. In 2003, she wrote history at the BWP stallion approvals, two of her sons got approved; Querlybet Hero (Baloubet du Rouet) nd Quel Hero de Muze (Power Light). Querlybet Hero has grown out to be a BWP ambassador, thanks to the quality of his production: Sea Coast Forlap DC, Zerly, Eros, Virtuose d’Hyrencourt, etc. He has jumped with Philippe Le Jeune at 1.60m. I was also able to visit Querlybet Hero at Ibreed Agency in Normandy, I really liked his character and type. I have also visited his half-sister Sauterelle de la Pomme and their dam, Narcotique de Muze II, at Haras de la Pomme. At the stables from Penelope Leprevost I got introduced to Vagabond the la Pomme thanks to his owners of Haras the Clarbec. All these horses have an amazing character and an excellent performance record!
Narcotique de Muze II her daughter Boyante de Muze (Kashmir van ‘t Schuttershof) jumped at 1.60m with Philippe Le Jeune and she produced Kevin Staut his 1.60m horse Estoy Aqui de Muze HDC (Malito de Reve).
Frederic Bouvard rode Estoy Aqui de Muze as a young horse, he recalls:
“As a young horse, she was not the most pleasant of all horses to ride, because she was very stiff, but what I quickly noticed is that she cleared almost every round she competed in! She was unbelievably consistent as a young horse already, which caught my attention quite soon! Then at the beginning of the year when she was 8, she jumped three 2* GP's and was double clear in all of them! In a 2* GP, although she was only 8, it was literally impossible to have a fence down, because she is so powerful and careful! I could have sat backwards in my saddle and still jump the Grand Prix's clear!”
Kevin Staut took over the reins from Frederic Bouvard:
“Estoy Aqui de Muze is not helped by her body, because she's so stiff, although it's gotten much much better compared to when she was a young horse! Her biggest strength is her mentality, she's a real fighter in the ring and would go through fire for her rider if she's asked to! Nothing scares her, she's not easily impressed at all! I really like horses with such a great mind! She's also powerful, scopy, quite careful, she rarely has more than a fence down! She's very consistent, which makes her a very good Nations Cup horse and possibly championship horse.”
Narcotique de Muze II her daughter Sea Coast Ferly was for a long time ridden by Gudrun Patteet at 1.60m level and Marlon Modolo Zanotelli. Farfelu de la Pomme (Vigo D’Arsouilles) is also a daughter of Narcotique de Muze II, she jumped at 1.60m with Jos Verlooy. Giovani de la Pomme (Shindler de Muze) out of Narcotique de Muze II is an approved stallion for A.E.S. and SF and jumped at 1.60m with Maelle Martin.
Also Narcotique de Muze II's daughters were able to pass on the ability to jump at the highest level; Azuela de Muze (Heartbreaker) jumped at 1.40m with Janika Sprunger and her son Vedet de Muze (Cartani) is jumping at 1.60m with Joe Clee and Felini de la Pomme (Vigo D’Arsouilles) is jumping at 1.60m with Regis Bouguennec, Teekitiezzie de Muze (For Pleasure) 1.45m with Cedric Bellanger produced Go Easy de Muze (Vigo D’Arsouilles) 1.60m with Jos Lansink and the approved BWP stallion Iceman de Muze (Erco van ‘t Roosakker) and he is jumping at 1.60m with Schuyler Riley. Baraka de Muze (Goethe) produced Sterrehof’s Ushi (Vigo D’Arsouilles) who jumped at 1.60m with Marc Houtzager and she was under saddle of Julia Kayser (partner of Marc Houtzager) also at 1.60m. Julia says about Ushi: “Ushi is a very good mare with a lot of scope and she has a very good style of jumping, she is careful and healthy. Sometimes she is not so concentrated in the ring, which is working against her. She is a horse with a good character who has proven her quality with quite some clear rounds in difficult classes.” Ushi her son Goliath S (Cardento) is jumping at 1.45m under the saddle of Yifan Zhang.
Excellentia de Muze
Excellentia de Muze (For Pleasure) showed excellent results as a young horse. As a four year old she was always clear in the classic cycle in Belgium. She was in the final of the Belgian Championship but had one down in the jump off. An accident prevented her to continue her career, she had a bad fracture in her right front leg. She survived after a long revalidation and was able to be used for breeding with the help of embryo transplantation. She produced around 30 offspring (this number is listed at the website Horsetelex). Her daughter Heroine de Muze (Tinka’s Boy) jumped at 1.60m with Taizo Suigitani. Belgian top rider Gregory Wathelet is riding Iphigenia de Muze (Erco van ‘t Roosakker) who jumping at 1.60m. Huxx de Muze (Nabab de Rêve) is competing at 1.60m under the saddle of Jonathan Chabrol. Incroyable de Muze (Nabab de Rêve) is also a daughter out of Excellentia de Muze, she is jumping at 1.50m with Marc Bettinger. Excellentia de Muze also produced the approved BWP stallion Inshallah de Muze (Nabab de Rêve) who is jumping at 1m60 with Philippe Lejeune. Full brother to Incroyable and Inshallah de Muze is Jadalco van de Kruishoeve who is jumping at 1.50m under the saddle of Francesca Bolfo.
Perry de Winter
Perry de Winter bought Walloon de Muze and Walnut de Muze when they were foals from Joris de Brabander.
He recalls:
“I have worked several years together with Joris de Brabander and the colts that were born with us went to Joris and we kept the fillies. The power of this mareline is that Walloon and Walnut are so excellently bred by Joris de Brabander. Both mares have scope in combination with a good willingness to perform and we see this in their offspring as well. These horses are competitive at the highest level and are therefore highly sought after. One of our most recent success is Million Dollar van het Schaeck (Plot Blue - Gin Tonic de Muze x Vigo D’Arsouilles) who is a much wanted young stallion at for the Holsteiner Verband. We use now our own stable name Van Het Schaeck. I use stallions that come from good marelines, I don’t favor certain stallions in the pedigree. Furthermore I will look at the conformation of the stallion, the way they jump, if they are difficult… I find it very important that they have a good rideability.”
Walloon de Muze
Walloon de Muze (Nabab de Rêve - Qerly Chin by Chin Chin) was born in 1999 and started in sport as a five year old. She won the six year-old final in Gesves with Stephan Vandewalle. She had a career at the international level including 1.60m with Michel Hecart and Cedric Bellanger. Her first offspring was Centa de Muze (Cento) and she produced: the 1.60m jumping horse Freestyle de Muze (Lord Z) ridden by Richie Moloney, Horizon de Regor (Obourg) who is jumping 1.60m with Pieter Clemens, Kerly de Regor (Darco) 1.50m under the saddle of Stacy Babes and Ems Inri de Regor (Lord Z) 1m50 under the saddle of Jos Verlooy.
Centa de Muze’s daughter, Imogen de Regor (Darco) jumped at 1.45m and produced Latisha de Regor (Diamant de Semilly) who is jumping at 1.55m under the saddle of Edwina Tops-Alexander, the approved BWP stallion Mithras de Regor (Elvis ter Putte) who is jumping at 1.45m under the saddle of Guy Beyers. Walloon de Muze’s second daughter Daytona de Muze, also by Cento, jumped at 1.60m with Jody Bosteels. Daytona de Muze subsequently produced the daughter Gin Tonic de Muze (Vigo D’Arsouilles) who went on to produce the Zangersheide/Holsteiner approved stallion Million Dollar van het Schaeck (Plot Blue) who was sold to the Holsteiner Verband. Currently Million Dollar van het Schaeck in standing in Belgium at Lansink Stables to compete in international sport under the saddle of Frank Schuttert. Daytona de Muze also produced the 1.50m jumping horse Kalisto de Music (Darco) under the saddle of Fabio Leivas da Costa.
Walloon de Muze’s daughter Toupie de la Roque (Kannan) jumped at 1.60m with Julien Epaillard and full brother Vip de la Roque jumped at 1m50 under the saddle of Michel Hecart.
PART 3
Werly Chin de Muze
Werly Chin de Muze is Walloon de Muze her full sister. As a five year-old she won the second qualification at the FEI World Breeding Jumping Championships for Young Horses with Johan Lenssens. As a seven year-old she jumped under saddle of Richard Davenport and became third in a six/seven year-old class in Saint Tropez. She jumped furthermore at 1.50m level in Europe under saddle of Angelie von Essen. Werly Chin de Muze’s first offspring is the mare Diablesse de Muze (Baloubet du Rouet) who is jumping at 1.60m with Joe Clee and she produced the approved BWP stallion I am a Moerhoeve’s Star (Kashmir van’t Schuttershof). Werly Chin de Muze’s son Dansecour de Muze (Diamant de Semilly) is competing at 1.45m with Paolo Mencolini.
Sharn Wordley competed at 1.60m with Derly Chin de Muze (For Pleasure), he recalls: “Derly is a super horse she is extremely scopey and careful. She is definitely a chestnut mare who has her own strong personality.” A very special daughter of Derly Chin de Muze is Killer Queen VDM (Eldorado van de Zeshoek), she was one of the best young horses from Belgium from her year. This was also discovered by Stephan Conter from Stephex Stables who purchased her and Daniel Deusser competed her through all the levels up to 1m60.
Also Everlychin de la Pomme (Malito de Rêve - Werly Chin) competed at 1.60m level, with Shane Sweetnam.
Lisa Lourie, who is the owner of Spy Coast Farm, about Everly Chin de la Pomme said: “Spy Coast Farm bought Everlychin de la Pomme as a seven year old in Belgium. She was the daughter of one of my favorite mares, Werly Chin de Muze, who I had bought several years earlier for my daughter to ride. After a freak accident, Werly Chin broke her knee and was retired as a broodmare, so I knew the bloodlines were excellent. I jumped at the opportunity to buy her daughter. Everlychin (now known as "Everly") has amazing front end technique over the jumps. American hunter riders took note of this immediately and inquired about buying her as soon as they laid eyes on her. She has perfect American hunter form. I, however, wanted to keep her as a jumper and to breed her. Eventually though, after getting two embryos from her, I was offered the right price by the right person, so she was sold. Scott Stewart now shows her for Dr. Betsy Parker and she has been very successful in the high performance hunters, with championships at the Hampton Classic, WEF World Hunter Week and wins at Capital Challenge and other indoor shows. Their success has been good marketing for my breeding program and further serves to emphasize that if the horse has a good brain as well as good technique, they can cut across disciplines. I strive for this duality in my breeding program.”
Shane Sweetnam about Werly Chin de Muze and Everlychin says: “I went to Europe to shop for great young riders horses for Julia, who is my sponsor, Lisa Lourie's, daughter. I had already pre-picked Werly as one of my favorites for Julia because of her amazing record, breeding, and brain. We just needed Julia to sit on her and make sure they were a match, and they were. Unfortunately, only after 3 short months, Werly suffered a career ending injury which also jeopardized her life. Lisa was faced with a difficult decision to put her down, or to try to let her heal with only a 50% success rate. We were devastated, as could be expected, but Lisa couldn't give up on this wonderful mare. Her heart was too big and her blood lines were too amazing to put her down. With a lot of determination from Lisa and the vets, we began breeding Werly and successfully got embryos off of her by stallions such as Amaretto D'Arco, For Pleasure, Presley Boy, and Diktator van de Boslandhoeve. She is still going strong with the breeding even now and we hoping to get many more superstars from this mare. I had heard about Everly chin from my horse agent in Europe, Ronan Clarke. When I heard that she was out of Werly, I was instantly interested in seeing her. I tried her, loved her, called Lisa, and we bought her straight away. She has classic technique, big scope, and was brave as a lion. I had a lot of success in the 1.40m - 1.50m classes at WEF, Spruce Meadows, Kentucky, and he Hampton Classic. Ultimately, her great form got attention from a top class hunter rider, Scott Stewart. He enquired about her and after much debate by myself and Lisa, she was sold as a hunter and has been champion at the biggest shows in the country. We were able to get a few embryos from her in our short time together, so hopefully we will be able to continue her lines as well.”
Update on Werly Chin from Lisa Lourie: “Werly Chin is alive and well and still producing for Spy Coast Farm. Her son Kirschwasser SCF (Amaretto D’Arco) is jumping now at 1m60 under the saddle of Shane Sweetnam). Her daughter EverlyChin de la Pomme, as you know has also been a very successful producer, especially of stallions. I am looking forward to Derly Chin de Muze's full sister, Mioko SCF, to continue Werly's line as well as perhaps Merly Chin SCF (Diktator).” Diablesse de Muze (Baloubet du Rouet – Werly Chin de Muze) jumped at 1.60m under the saddle of Joe Clee. Kasanova de la Pomme (Bamako de Muze) is a very promising stallion that is jumping at 1.50m under the saddle of Karline de Brabander.
Walnut de Muze
The early steps of Walnut de Muze in sport were made possible by Christel Lenssens and Kurt de Clercq. Like her sisters before her, Walnut de Muze also reached the finale of the five year-olds at the FEI World Breeding Jumping Championships for Young Horses at Zangersheide. Harrie Smolders was the rider of Walnut de Muze, he recalls:
“Walnut de Muze came as an eight year old to Stable Eurohorse. She was purchased by Axel Verlooy with the goal to bring her up to a higher level in jumping and then to sell her again. Walnut de Muze was standing out because of her extreme scope, but also because of her untamable temperament. After six rough months we found the right click. Thanks to team Exquis, who invested for me in Walnut de Muze, I got the possibility to measure myself with the world’s best showjumping riders. In 2008 I won with her my first 5* Grand Prix in San Patrignano.
Together we have won 10 Grand Prix’s. Her performances also got noticed by the chef d’Equipe. In 2009 Walnut was part of the Dutch team. She had a few very good results with the Dutch team that year: third in La Baule, second in Aachen, first in Spruce Meadows and fourth at the European Championship in Windsor. We won that year, as icing on the cake, the Grand Prix of Qatar and I rode in Paris in the top 10 final! In 2010 we also won the Grand Prix of Lummen, the Nations Cup in Dublin and we became second in the Grand Prix of Madrid. We also took part of the World Equestrian Games in Kentucky.
Further we have won the Grand Prix of Madrid and we became second in the Grand Prix of Europe in Aachen. We also have been third in the Global Champions Tour of Abu Dhabi. These have been for me very special victories with a golden edge. Her favorite showgrounds are in Aachen, Calgary and Wellington. Partly thanks to her I am almost for 10 years in the top 20 of the World Ranking list. I am very thankful that team Exquis has given me that opportunity. Walnut de Muze is a mare with a tremendous big heart, she has been my stepping stone to the best in the world. She gives me the feeling that no fence is too high. I owe her a lot. In the beginning of this year I have won with her in Wellington a 1.50m class.
She is 16 now and I hope I can compete with her in the spring at some shows I have selected. She likes outdoor shows the most. The younger horses have in meantime taken over the hard work. Joris de Brabander used her as a broodmare when she was younger. Her most famous offspring so far is obviously I’m Special de Muze (Emerald van ‘t Ruytershof). I am following this stallion with more than normal because aside from riding his mother, I also had the opportunity to ride his sire at the highest levels.
Falaise de Muze (Wandor van de Mispelaere) is also an approved son out of Walnut de Muze. I hope that Walnut de Muze will produce many more offspring. I am convinced that they will contribute to the sport of showjumping at the highest level. It would be very nice if I would get to ride at one day an offspring of Walnut de Muze.”
From the same year as Falaise de Muze (jumped at 1.50m under the saddle of Annelies Vorsselmans) comes the mare Fetard de la Pomme, she jumped at 1.55m under the saddle of Koen Vereecke.
Walnut de Muze’s daughter Carrera de Muze (Darco) competed in the USA at 1.45m with Tracy Magness, she recalls:
“Carrera was a wonderful talent. She had a lot of blood and was very careful. For me I had good results but felt she was a bit too much horse and so sent her back to Eurohorse Axel Verlooy in Belgium. That is where I purchased her. She for sure had the talent to jump higher than 1.45m...just not with me. She was very strong-- maybe more of a man's ride. I picked her for myself in Europe and totally loved her. She was a very friendly, pretty mare. Unfortunately just not a match made in heaven. I wanted her to jump bigger and just felt that she was not the best match to do it with me.”
J’Adore van het Schaeck (Vagabond de la Pomme) is a daughter out of Carrera de Muze and therefore a line breeding to Qerly Chin.
She is bred by Perry de Winter and he recalls:
“J’Adore van het Schaeck competed at 1.60m under the saddle of Nicola Philippaerts and so far she has fulfilled all our expectations. We have good experiences with inbreeding at a certain level.” Also Caipiranja (Taran de la Pomme) is bred by Perry de Winter and jumped at 1.60m under the saddle of Tiffany Foster.
Walnut de Muze’s son Everest de Muze (For Pleasure) is currently with Jennifer Gates, competing at 1.40m. He was previously ridden by Taylor Alexander competing at 1.50m, she recalls: “I showed him in 2013 at Spruce Meadows and the North American Younger Rider Championships. He put in some consistent rounds, especially on the team day which was able to help us get a silver medal for our team. Everest always seems eager to show and please. He always has a lot of energy and he takes you to the jump. He is very forgiving about mistakes and is very brave. He jumps everything and has no issues with the open water. He has a lot of personality and loves to get attention.”
Henk Nijhof Sr. about the Qerly Chin line
Henk Nijhof Sr. explains his connection with the Qerly Chin line:
“I was already familiar with this line because I used to have a Stud farm in the province Zeeland in the Netherlands. I knew Walter de Brabander already a bit (Joris de Brabander his father), he had Pachat II (Hadj A x - Hautesse x Quastor) at his stable and I came there regularly. I was always quite fond of the French breeding, I thought that it could enhance in several ways my breeding program and we should get the things that we don’t have (speaking about the Dutch) from other breeding registries. Walter de Brabander had several stallions that I found interesting like Pachat II and Olifant, so that’s I why I had already a connection with family de Brabander. Later it appeared that Joris continued the breeding with Chin Chin (Constant - Larese x Farnese, Stamm 4539) and Nabab de Rêve (Quidam de Revel - Melodie en Fa x Artichaut). So it became an accumulation of good stallions and that became an outstanding combination. These stallions are the foundation for Qerly Chin and her offspring and if you see all that descends from this line are incredible! I have a passion for this line, but it is difficult to get a hold of horses from this line. It wasn’t easy to buy a horse from Joris, but after staying determined I finally could buy half of I’m Special de Muze (Emerald van ‘t Ruytershof - Walnut de Muze). We still each own half of him. There is serious interest from buyers to sell I’m Special de Muze, but we decided to keep him. We hope he will give us some more pleasure for a while yet. He is developing very well! You need a mare with blood with him. Blood is needed for many stallions. I’m Special de Muze does a good job. Walnut de Muze is a top horse and she is also beautiful.”
